Same Site, Same Two Names, Since 1985
GCS Engineering has traded from Unit A at Monks Gate Garage on the Brighton Road since the mid-1980s. It is run today by co-owners Tim Chandler and Jez Parsons, the same two people who have overseen the workshop for most of its history.
Where It Started
The workshop's Porsche specialism did not arrive recently as a marketing decision. Jez Parsons' background runs through Carrera Performance, the Porsche specialist that operated from this same Monks Gate site. That history is the reason flat-six rebuilds, IMS bearing work and race preparation sit at the centre of what GCS does, rather than being an occasional side job squeezed between services.
Tim Chandler and Jez Parsons brought that specialism together with everyday German car servicing under one name and one roof. The result is a workshop that can rebuild a race engine on one ramp and do a routine Audi interim service on the next, to the same standard.
How The Workshop Works
We adopted TecRMI manufacturer technical data in 2008, giving the workshop the same wiring diagrams, torque specifications and fault trees a franchise dealer works from, years before that became standard practice for independents. Since then, we have added a Hunter 3D laser wheel alignment rig and in-house front-camera calibration for VAG models, both used on a genuine daily basis rather than kept for special occasions.
Class 4 MOT testing is carried out on site, so a test and any resulting work can usually happen in the same visit. Every customer gets a free courtesy car for anything kept in overnight, and free local collection and drop-off across Horsham, Crawley, Southwater and Lower Beeding.

Closed weekends. Saturday handovers by prior arrangement only. Saturday handovers can be arranged in advance, but the workshop itself runs a five-day week, which is part of how the same two people have kept a consistent standard for this long.
