Engine Repairs & Rebuilds

A knock that was not there last month, a warning that the oil pressure is low, or a dealer that has quoted you the price of a replacement engine when the actual problem is one component inside it.

This is where the workshop goes past routine servicing. We have been doing engine balancing, crankshaft regrinding and full rebuilds since long before it was fashionable to talk about it, on everything from ordinary daily-driver engines to Porsche flat-sixes. If a bottom-end job can be repaired properly instead of thrown away and replaced, we will tell you, and we will do it.

What The Job Involves

Proper diagnosis before the engine comes apart

Compression and leak-down testing, oil analysis, and a look at what is actually failing before anything gets stripped, so you are not paying to open an engine that only needed one part replacing.

Machine work most garages send out

Crankshaft regrinding, cylinder honing and engine balancing are done in-house or under our direct supervision, not couriered off to three different subcontractors and hoped for.

Rebuilt to run, not just to pass a compression test

Clearances checked with plastigauge, correct torque sequences, and a proper running-in and re-check after the first few hundred miles, before we call the job finished.

Why Have GCS Do It

  • Engine balancing and crankshaft regrinding experience going back decades, not a recent add-on.
  • The same team behind Carrera Performance-lineage Porsche flat-six work, applied to whatever is actually on the ramp.
  • A straight answer on repair versus replacement before you commit to either.

Questions We Get Asked

Is it cheaper to repair or replace the engine?

It depends entirely on what has actually failed. A worn bearing or a failed water pump seal is a fraction of the cost of a replacement unit. A cracked block usually is not. We will diagnose first and give you both numbers.

Do you work on Porsche flat-six engines specifically?

Yes. It is one of the areas the workshop is best known for, including IMS bearing work and full rebuilds on air-cooled and later water-cooled engines.

Tell us what the car is doing and we will tell you straight.

No hard sell, no assembly swapped on a guess. Call the workshop directly or send the details online and we'll get back to you the same working day.
